Welcome to Asia

I have long anticipated my first trip to Asia, having always traveled to Latin America for my out of country journeys (except for a few trips to Europe and one quick jaunt to Iceland).  The time had finally come for me to go on another long journey.  The job/career I had been working on was ending and a long trip had been calling since I started said job.  Time for another trip to some magical Spanish speaking country and a trip full of cerveza, beaches, rios and easy living, no, for some reason this time I picked India.  The reason is actually very simple, I've always wanted to kayak rivers draining the mighty Himilaya and I am intrigued by eastern philosophy, so when the chance arose to go with an awesome group (who Ill introduce later) my current work project ending and feet itching like crazy after having the same job for five whole years in a row, I decided it was time to go!

My first destination, and current location in India, is the Ladakh region.  It is in northern India, near the somewhat disputed borders of China and Pakhistan.  It is a beautiful area, very arid and high elevation with mountains rising to the sky, capped in glaciers and the mighty Indus river down in the valley.  In town, we are at 11,562 feet above sea level.  It feels like a very small version of Cuzco, Peru if you've ever been there.  It is definitely filled with an abundance of honking horns, animals eating trash, streets lined with stores all selling the same thing, some amazing history, and to throw a wrench in this whole thing - these folks drive on the wrong side of the road!
